The
Devil's Kneading Trough. Offering fabulous views
towards Ashford, this spectacular scenery was
formed about 100,000BC when upward earth movements
produced a dome which was eroded to create the
Downs. The hills are characterised by steep-sided
valleys of which this is the most famous. Continual
freezing and thawing of the soil during the later
glacial period caused the thawed mud to ooze slowly
downhill like ‘porridge to form this dramatic
valley. Restaurant and free parking.
