We’ve started a journey to create a small cooking school at Crabtree Farm*, with us, the local community and YOU at the heart of it.

 

The concept is deliciously simple: A family-focused farm, school and website that provides shared experiences through an online portal that offers exciting tried-and-tested recipes, inspiration and nutritional advice to help feed your family well.

We think food should be seasoned with consideration and cooked with love.
*(We’ve only bought the farm in 2020 and its all a work in progress, school not due till 2025, just online recipes till then:)

OUR FOOD PHILOSOPHY

FARM TO FORK

We aim to reduce the environmental impact of food processing by home-growing when it’s possible, and buying local produce when it’s not. Our Farm To Fork strategy will stimulate sustainable food consumption and promote affordable healthy food at Crabtree Farm.

HEALTHY ATTITUDE

We believe that what you eat effects who you are, and fantastic food can lead to a healthier and happier life.
We live in a world filled with mind-blowing flavours that are beneficial to the body and nourish the soul. Equally, we’ve never had such effortless access to information and masses of conflicting sentiments about what’s good and what’s bad for us. This has made us more aware of the effects our diets can have on our well-being – and  that of our children – thus the importance of creating sensible, informed choices when it comes to our food has never been greater.

Food is fuel, but it’s also the key to all-around healthy living. Once we understand the basics, free from media hype, trends and fad diets, it’s easy to get a great balance between what we need and what we love.

At Crabtree Farm we have a healthy attitude toward healthy eating.

Most foods are not inherently bad, especially when they’re homemade. It’s all about striking a balance and still enjoying what we eat. Our approach is holistic; we aim to make the preparation and cooking of family food simple, fun and engaging. There’s no reason why healthy food should leave you unsatisfied or be just another virtuous chore.

BALANCE

A balanced diet is essential for everyone. It doesn’t have to be precise to the gram – but a mix of good carbs, healthy fats and protein, plus essential vitamins and minerals will help you feel happier, healthier and more energetic. Taste is about making the most of ingredients and highlighting natural flavours. Flavours are essential, so if butter will do a better job or a little sugar helps, add it!


CONVENIENCE

Who says healthy food has to be time-consuming and complicated to create? Considering the time from the kitchen to table is an essential part of our approach. We aim for 30 minutes or less ‘hands-on time’ per meal (with a few exceptions of course, we like to push the boat out every now and again). Our recipes are created to be hassle-free, are suitable for feeding the whole family and won’t need every pot and pan imaginable. We’re here to prove that it doesn’t take long to create simple, nourishing and delicious foods for your loved ones, and that the process can be rewarding and fun too.


NATURALLY BETTER

Meals should be created from real food, not preservatives, colourings or artificial flavourings.  Our recipes include natural ingredients, or can easily be adapted. We certainly don’t believe in fad diets or crazes, and our methods are not gluten-free — unless of course, your diet requires it.


FINAL WORDS

As a society we have all grown up over-eating salt and sugar, and thinking that fats and carbs are flat out bad for you. It’s time for our generation to understand the importance of eating well. We want to promote to families the consumption of good food through an education in healthy eating. We hope to inspire and empower you to help make beneficial and delicious food choices to maximise the vitality of you and your family.

If we can help our children to eat well and understand food now, they will go on to inspire change for future generations.
