Out & About
The coastal area of the South East is perfect for those wanting to get away from busy city life to explore a unique part of this wonderful country. The charming seaside towns and villages are simply beautiful — guaranteed to give you a real taste of Kent life with plenty to offer to make your holiday special.
So named because smugglers who were caught were deported to Botany Bay in Australia, this quiet sandy bay is the most northerly of Broadstairs’ seven bays. It’s great for swimming, perfect for families, and has lots of rock pools to explore.

…Pop over to Broadstairs, you’ll find sandy bays, chalky cliffs and old-school seaside charm in this part of the Kent coast.
Close to Ramsgate Main Sands (which is a hotspot for families in the busier months), Ramsgate Western Undercliff offers a slightly more secluded spot on a smaller sandy beach whilst still being close to the town.

A calm and picturesque setting, Stone Bay is bordered with postcard-like chalky cliffs and offers some great spots for rock-pooling. The access to Stone Bay is worth taking into account before setting off: two steep flights of steps are the only ways on or off the beach.

A must-visit for ice cream lovers along the North Kent Coast. This branch has been here since 1932 and sells gelato in myriad flavours, from a vanilla to pistachio to nocciola.
An ideal sandy bay with a promenade, cliffs and rock pools for the younger ones to explore. Beach huts are dotted around, and a selection of friendly cafes make this a welcoming and comfortable spot to visit.

End at: The Little Fish Shop, 6 Gough Rd, Sandgate, Folkestone, CT20 3BE
Starting at the harbour, follow the boardwalk path to the Lower Leas Coastal Park, and from there continue along the coast toward Sandgate until you reach the castle. This route both begins and ends at great fish and chip spots!
Start at: The Zetland Arms, Wellington Parade, Kingsdown, Deal, CT14 8AF
End at: The Coastguard, St Margaret’s Road, St Margaret’s Bay, Dover, CT15 6DY
Following the Saxon Shore Way in the direction of Dover, you’ll pass through open rolling downland along the cliffs, and then head down into the idyllic seaside village of St Margaret’s. We recommend taking an extra layer (we’ve known it to get quite windy), as well as frequent stops to absorb the iconic surroundings and the uninterrupted sea views.
Start and end at: Botany Bay Hotel, Marine Drive, Broadstairs, CT10 3LG
An open-ended route – walk as far along the beach and cliffs as you wish, but before long head back to the Botany Bay Hotel to sample a classic plate of fish and chips at one of the most picturesque spots on the British coast.
